My story
I’m Shir Newman, a Tel-Aviv based photographer and editor, sharing a home with my artist partner and our furry-tailed daughter.
I inherited a passion for photography and story-telling from my grandmother, the daughter of a pioneering Mexico City photographer, and opened a professional studio as soon as I graduated from high school.
A few years later, I studied film and media at Kibbutzim College in Tel Aviv, graduating with distinction and with my final project — “Madre Tierra”, a short documentary — picking up several international awards.
My first feature-length film “How to Say Silence”, released in 2021, won awards at leading festivals in Israel and abroad.
Alongside photography, I have always been involved in activism. During my undergraduate studies I co-founded Bush Collective, a platform and voice for queer art.
My studio provides professional photography and editing services to companies, organizations and non-governmental groups. Over the years, they have included Data Science Group, Energix, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Huuuge, Moovit, Sisense, Blumberg Capital, Fiverr, Israel’s education, agriculture and interior ministries, Darkenu, The Israel Women’s Network, Edmond de Rothschild Partnerships, and more.
